Tutanota Releases: Unlimited Custom Domain Email Addresses, Contact Lists, Shared Mailboxes & Family Option

The summer of 2023 has been great! 😍

This summer the Tutanota team has been hard at work to improve your encrypted mailbox. We have just released several improvements that will make your experience in Tutanota even better. Check out all new features, and also discover some neat tweaks for the mobile apps!

Check out these awesome features that will make you ♥️ Tutanota even more.

Unlimited alias addresses for custom domains

Unlimited alias email addresses for custom domains is a new feature that is exclusively available to all Tutanota users with one of our new paid plans, namely Revolutionary or Legend as well as Essential, Advanced and Unlimited.

With unlimited aliases for your custom domain, you can create a new address for each service that you sign up, receive and send emails with this email address; never having to worry about running out of email addresses.

While all Tutanota plans are limited in the number of email addresses you can create with Tutanota domains, you can now create as many email addresses with your own domain as you like. Check here why having multiple email alias addresses is a good idea and how it improves your security online.

Switch now to Revolutionary, Legend, Essential, Advanced or Unlimited to unlock this feature in your Tutanota mailbox.

Contact lists

Tutanota now lets you create and share contact lists with all of our new paid plans, namely Revolutionary or Legend as well as Essential, Advanced and Unlimited.

Easily create contact lists of your family, friends or business contacts to plan events, holidays, or meetings. You can even share your encrypted contact list with other Tutanota users so that all of you can communicate via the same list.

Learn everything you need to know about contact lists in our FAQ.

Family option

Since the introduction of our new personal plans Revolutionary and Legend (which are meant for individual use only), we have had a lot of feedback from our users that they would like to use these plans with their family as well.

We are excited to let you know that you can now easily book the family option within your upgraded Tutanota accounts. Simply upgrade to your preferred plan; then contact support to unlock the Family option for your account.

Once done, you can add as many family members to your account as you like. Each will cost as much as the original user that you upgraded with, and each will get the same amount of storage and email alias addresses. In addition, you will all be able to use your custom domain(s), share calendars, send calendar invites, share contact lists (new feature!), and share a mailbox (new feature!) with all your family members.

We hope this update meets the need of our beloved Tutanota families! ♥️

Shared mailboxes

Tutanota is not just about securing your own data online. It’s very much about sharing data securely: calendars, contact lists, and now mailboxes - all of these can be shared easily and end-to-end encrypted!

Shared mailboxes are additional mailboxes that also come with extra storage and alias email addresses, just like normal Tutanota users within your account. The new innovation about shared mailboxes is that you can display these mailboxes in multiple users. This means, for instance, you can have a shared family email address or a shared company support address that multiple people within your account have access to.

Upgrade now and make use of all new features in Tutanota!

App updates

In addition, we have brought great changes to the iOS and Android apps this last year:

  • U2F support in all apps

  • Biometric/pin unlock to secure your encrypted mailbox on mobile

Most recently we have released:

  • Automatic switch between dark & light theme based on your system settings

  • And the long awaited: pinch-to-zoom!

We hope you love these updates! 😍

Thanks to your continuous support, we can continue to grow our team and add new features faster!
