Tuta User Survey 2025
Check out the feedback from this year’s user survey and learn what we’ll focus on in 2026.
As always, we’ve asked what features you would like to see next in Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar. But let’s kick this results’overview off with what we’ve already achieved! In 2023, the highest requested features were
- Search Mailbox - achieved (plus Calendar Search)
- Drive - about to be released
- Subfolders – achieved (plus dragging folders to sort them)
- Organize emails by labels - achieved
- Offline support - achieved
- Sending large attachments - about to be released
- Update to post-quantum encryption - achieved
- Enable adjustment of layout (increase/reduce size of email list, email content) - achieved
- Improve speed - achieved
So with all these achievements one might ask: What’s next? Rest assured, our to-do list never ends, and we’ll continue improving Tuta Mail, Tuta Calendar, and soon also Tuta Drive.
Most requested product
Last year, in the mid of the AI hype, we also asked for bigger features and products that you’d like to see coming next to Tuta. Interestingly, Tuta Drive was requested by 29% of our users while only 3% asked for an AI Copilot - which we can fully understand because using AI in emails is not the smartest move, particularly when privacy is important to you.
Results of user survey 2025
Now, let’s look at this year’s user survey results! We’re happy to see that you use Tuta Mail, Tuta Calendar, and Tuta Contacts extensively. As expected, Tuta Mail, our first product that launched under the name of Tutanota in March 2014, is still most used, but the calendar is catching up, and contacts is, of course, a necessity when sending emails. But the nice thing about Tuta Contacts is that you can sync contacts on mobile, and use the Tuta Contacts as your main, encrypted contacts app.
To us, it’s also important on what app you use Tuta so we can better allocate our resources. While we will continue to work on all our apps – web, Android, iOS – as well as our free email desktop clients for Linux, Windows, and macOS, it’s interesting to see that most people still use the web client. This is understandable as a browser is always available, but you should also keep in mind that the user experience on our mobile and desktop apps is much better!
However, from the data, we can estimate that the web browser is often used in parallel with the mobile and desktop apps, which also have high usage rates, particularly on Android and Linux.
User satisfaction
A big part of the survey is to find out how happy you are with Tuta, what is still missing, and how we can improve to achieve best-possible happiness for all our users! So here it goes. We’ve asked how satisfied you are with Tuta Mail, Tuta Calendar, and Tuta Contacts.
You ❤️ Tuta and Tuta ❤️ You!
Tuta is a community-driven project. Without big investor’s money and huge marketing budgets, we rely on our users to recommend Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar to their friends and family, and even to their doctor or physiotherapist. And it’s amazing to see how this approach is paying off: Over 80% of users are likely or very likely to recommend Tuta to their family, friends, and colleagues. This advocacy speaks volumes about the trust our users place in us and their satisfaction with the platform. On that note, we’d like to remind everyone about gift cards in Tuta. Under Settings → Plan → Gift cards, you can purchase gift cards for your family and friends. So this Christmas it’s super easy to give the gift of privacy! 😍 🎄
What’s next
Of course, development at Tuta never stops, and as always we’ve asked what you’d like to see implemented next in Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar.
The features most requested for Tuta Mail are mainly about email organization, for instance rules to label incoming emails automatically (13%), schedule send for emails (11.4%), more inbox rules flexibility (11.3%), and better spam detection (9.8%).
Given these requests, you’ll be happy to hear that we are already working on schedule send for emails as well as better spam detection, and both improvements are going to be released soon!
The features most requested for Tuta Calendar are mainly about displaying options, such as multi-day agenda view (20.3%), month view in the widget (19.2%), as well as the option to share unencrypted calendars with others (15.2%), support for different time zones (12.2.%), and polls to agree on a date/time (11.1%).
As we currently plan the development roadmap for 2026, we will take these requests into account.
Tuta – not just a product, but a mission
At Tuta, we’re not just building the most secure email service, but we’re following a mission. We want to make the web a better place where everyone’s data is protected and where users’ are respected. We are following a business model in stark contrast to Big Tech with its abuse of user data for advertising or for training their AI models. Instead, we want the users’ to own their data.
To achieve this, we are also very active against any policy regulation that would undermine the right to privacy by demanding encryption backdoors. For instance, we – together with your support – made sure that Chat Control will not break encryption, we’re speaking up against a Swiss surveillance bill in the making, and against the UK’s Online Safety Bill.
In this year’s survey, we were extremely excited that you share our passion in fighting for privacy rights all over the world. We are very happy to see that you appreciate our activism and that our advocacy for digital privacy is very important to you.
Thank you for fighting for privacy along with us!
