Improved search in your encrypted mailbox (And that’s not all!)

We are happy to announce that searching your encrypted mailbox is now faster! We’ve also improved Tuta’s sync and rolled out nice mailbox organisation features with nested labels, mail counters on labels, and collapsible shared mailboxes.

Creating a search experience that's smooth and fast is a more difficult when it comes to end-to-end encrypted data, but it's a challenge we are up for and have been working on - because we want your experience in Tuta Mail to be amazing! Search is not the only improvement in Tuta this summer; our teams have also worked to improve sync speeds and introduced features to boost your organization! So, let's take a closer look at what's new and coming soon in Tuta Mail.

👉 Inbox rules for labels: Soon you will be able to assign labels to incoming emails.

Before we rolled out this new search improvement, we would only had partial search index. While this worked, it was not as efficient and fast as it could be. We’ve now changed this to index your whole mailbox. This means that all old emails are downloaded and stored end-to-end encrypted locally on your device, which makes searching your encrypted emails faster.

Faster Sync

Last year we rolled out FastSync to all Tuta clients, making it 10x faster, and since then our team has continued to improve it. Improving the sync of your encrypted mailboxes is an ongoing project, and you will notice that sync is now even faster!

Mailbox organization improvements

We are continuously improving all aspects of Tuta Mail including email organization. Some nice improvements we have recently introduced can be seen below.

Labels have an unread email counter

Labels now display an unread email counter in Tuta Mail. Labels now display an unread email counter in Tuta Mail.

When an unread email is labeled, the label section of your mailbox will also display how many unread labeled emails you have.

Labels can be nested

Shared mailboxes are now collapsible

Shared mailboxes are now collapsible, allowing you to choose which shared mailbox you’d like to view without any extra clutter.

Next up, we will release inbox rules that assign labels - a highly requested feature from the Tuta community. This means that you’ll be able to create new inbox rules which assign labels to incoming emails.
