During the Christmas holidays we have moved to new offices in Hanover. After eight years of developing Tutanota,
we have on-boarded so many developers that our beloved offices in the Hanomaghof have become too cramped. Now,
we are still situated in Linden-Süd with enough space to grow our team by the dozens - and that's what we are planning to do
in the next eight years!
Today we would like to welcome Sara to our team. As a specialist in cryptography, we are
excited that Sara will make sure that Tutanota becomes a quantum-secure email service in the near future!
We are so happy to let you know that we've pushed out some great improvements to Tutanota, we're particularly happy
about the amazing design update! Tutanota is now much more beautiful and navigation is much easier, also on mobile
(app updates follow slightly later).
Tutanota is the go-to app for secure emails: With built-in encryption all data is protected, and no one but the
intended recipient can read your emails - even we, the Tutanota developers, have no access. Started in 2011,
Tutanota now is an email client with an encrypted address book and calendar. Matthias Pfau explains
why secure communications are so important in times of all-round surveillance.
The EU commission has drafted a proposal for e-evidence that would allow authorities to request data from
communication providers across borders. The draft in its current form is considered as way too broad by
data protection professionals. Tutanota now has signed an Open Letter to the EU Parliament to include important
restrictions and add a better legal oversight to the draft.
We are excited to let you know that we have released a major update for Tutanota! You can now share your encrypted
calendar wih colleagues, friends or family. We have also switched our booking system so that it works with
credit balances, which is a requirement to implement Bitcoin payments.
Secure email accounts are becoming more and more popular. This is mirrored by the increasing number of reviews and
comparisons about secure services. But what are the security measures that you must look out for? What does it
take for an email provider to qualify as secure?
Unless they have specifically signed up for a behavioural profiling study, a user may not realise just how much
profiling information is being gathered from the way they use a product. Tarquin Wilton-Jones, Security Expert at
Vivaldi, explains how listening to users benefits product development much more than tracking users.
Most websites and online services let you register with your chosen Tutanota email address just fine. Unfortunately,
we have received reports by users that some websites block Tutanota email addresses for new registrations. Nevertheless,
there are several options to resolve this situation.
This summer a new email app called Superhuman saw quite the scandal: It puts a tracking pixel into every email their
users are sending, enabling everyone to track their private and business contacts. Something we are used to only from
marketing emails and newsletters, suddenly became a commonplace in everyday email. This erosion of privacy must not continue. Instead,
we have to ask for a better way, an ethical way.
We are happy to let you know that we have updated Tutanota. Besides lots of minor improvements and fixes, Tutanota
now comes with an even more beautiful dark theme than the one we had before.
Everyone is talking about how important cybersecurity is. Yet, data breaches continue to rise. The amount of data that has been breached
since the beginning of the internet to date is enormous. To make people understand how valuable their
data is, this summary of data breaches in the second half of 2019 focuses on breaches that affected more than one million people. Check
back regularly as we keep this list up-to-date.
