Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar now available as Thunderbird add-ons
Good news for all Thunderbird users: Now you can use Tuta in Thunderbird with just one click!
Thunderbird add-on
After installation, a separate button for Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar appears in the Spaces Toolbar. One click is all it takes - and the Tuta Mail web app opens in a new Thunderbird tab.
What does that mean exactly?
After installing and saving your Tuta login, Tuta runs directly within Thunderbird. The login can remain saved, just as you are used to with the normal web app. All functions of the web app are fully available, i.e., email (via the Tuta Mail add-on) and calendar (via the Tuta Calendar add-on), and soon the Tuta Drive solution as well.
This allows you to easily use your secure email provider with automatic encryption right from Thunderbird.
Technically, this is secure web app access within the Thunderbird desktop app—without any restrictions on functionality.
Just give it a try – no complicated changes required
The idea behind the two add-ons is clear: many people already work with Thunderbird on a daily basis and want to continue doing so. Now, with the quick access buttons for Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar, they can easily test Tuta and use it permanently – without leaving their familiar environment.
This allows you to try out Tuta alongside your existing email infrastructure.
The Tuta add-ons are available in the Thunderbird Add-on Store in Thunderbird and can be installed directly from there:
Now Thunderbird users can use Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar conveniently, with just one click!
Tuta desktop app is even better
If you want to switch to Tuta and experience all of its features, we recommend using the Tuta desktop app for Linux, Windows, and macOS.
If you decide to switch completely to Tuta after a trial period, you should use our native Tuta desktop app. It offers the best performance and integration and includes, for example, a much better search function and the ability to import and export emails.
This is because importing emails is not yet possible in the Tuta web app. For now, drag & drop of emails from Thunderbird to Tuta is not currently supported, and notifications can’t yet be received in Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar as Thunderbird add-ons.
You can compare the Thunderbird and Tuta Mail desktop clients here.
Everything Open Source
Transparency and verifiable security are essential to us, including in our integrations. That’s why the Tuta Thunderbird add-ons are published as open source, as is the entire Tuta Client.
With the new add-ons for Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar in Thunderbird, it’s even easier to integrate secure communication and encrypted scheduling into your workflow.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank dmrhn, who initially developed the Tuta add-on for Thunderbird as an open source add-on and gave us the idea in the first place. Thank you very much! ❤️
We are delighted that together we can make the internet a better place!
