BSI honors Tuta for its outstanding commitment in email security
On September 18, 2026, Tuta was inducted into the Hall of Fame 2.0 with Gold status - a campaign organized by the BSI in collaboration with eco and bitkom - and was honored with a certificate for its outstanding email security.
Tuta builds trust in digital communication
Under the motto “Together, we are building Cybernation Germany,” the BSI, together with Bitkom e.V. and the eco Association of the Internet Industry e.V., declared last year the “Year of Email Security” and launched the Hall of Fame campaign to both improve email security in Germany and raise consumer awareness.
After all, it is estimated that more than 360 million emails are sent every day. Worldwide. As a result, email has long since become the standard for (digital) communication, both personally and professionally. However, this also means that emails are exposed to a growing threat from cybercriminals on a daily basis and present an even greater target for cyberattacks.

That’s why, together with partners from the German business community, we’re working to make email communication across Germany safer. Organizations that have joined our initiative are not only sending a strong message, but are also making a direct impact: They are taking responsibility for the integrity, confidentiality, and authenticity of their digital communications.”

Through its successful DNSSEC implementation, Tuta secures its email system in such a way that tampering and phishing attacks are prevented before they can even occur. In doing so, Tuta is making a decisive contribution to making email communication in Germany more secure.
Admittedly, Tuta, as a pioneer in secure email, has been using DNSSEC for years - since the launch of Tuta(nota) in 2015, to be exact. But the fact that the BSI is now promoting this issue and that it’s gaining widespread adoption among email providers is, of course, a very good thing, as it improves security for everyone.
Hanna Bozakov, CEO of Tuta, states:
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the BSI for the certificate. While DNSSEC is a foundation for email security, unfortunately not everyone is using this technology for their emails yet. Of course, it would be even better if the BSI were to recognize the implementation of end-to-end encryption for emails, ideally using quantum-resistant algorithms. That way, emails can be sent with true security - much like a sealed letter.”
Postquantum-secure Cryptography
This is because Tuta not only uses TLS protocols such as DANE, DNSSEC, and MTA-STS for Tuta domains as well as for the domains of companies that use Tuta for their email infrastructure, but also consistently relies on end-to-end encryption. Tuta has been using post-quantum-secure encryption since 2024. This made Tuta Mail the first email provider in the world capable of protecting emails from attacks by quantum computers.
