Helping Ukraine

Tutanota donates to humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

The Russian invasion in Ukraine is an attack on a free, democratic country and a humanitarian disaster. We stand with the people in Ukraine and are donating 25% of revenue from new Tutanota subscriptions in February and March to humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

As the war in Ukraine relentlessly gathers pace and has already reached large parts of the country, many civilians are trying to get to safety. More than half a million people have reportedly already fled to neighboring Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.

Many have been on the road for several days, traveled across the country and then had to stand for hours in front of the clogged border, often without food, in the cold. At the border, families need to separate from husbands, fathers and sons as only women, children and old people are allowed to leave the country.

The need for humanitarian aid is multiplying and increasing by the hour, says UNICEF. In this unequal struggle, the Western world must support Ukraine by all means.

We stand with the people in Ukraine and are donating 25% of revenue from new Tutanota subscriptions in February and March to humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Our support will focus on projects helping Ukrainian families and children fleeing from the war.

Tutanota is blocked in Russia

In Russia, the right to free speech and the right to privacy do not exist anymore. It has become increasingly dangerous to speak freely, and people doing so risk being sent to prison.

Russia is making it more and more difficult for its citizens to communicate privately, for instance by blocking access to secure communication tools such as Tutanota. Tutanota has been blocked in Russia for two years now. Nevertheless, a lot of Russians do use Tutanota to protect their private communication from prying eyes. In Russia, protecting your private emails from the FSB (Federal Security Service) can be a matter of life and death.

Now that the Western world has issued severe sanctions against Russia, it might become impossible for some of our users to pay for their Tutanota subscription. However, these sanctions are targeted at the oppressing regime, not at normal citizens, let alone at activists trying to hide their communication from this same regime.

Providing support from Tutanota

If you live in Russia, Belarus or the Ukraine and are unable to pay your subscription due to the current situation, please contact support. We will renew your subscription for free to make sure you can keep protecting your private communication.

At Tutanota we fight for everybody’s right to privacy. In these dark times, we are thankful that we can support Ukraine with your help!
