Going dark: The EU Council wants to take away encryption from all citizens.
A new chapter of the Crypto Wars has just been started by the Swedish presidency of the EU Council: The increased use of encryption, particularly in messaging apps, would make law enforcement "blind and deaf". Warning against criminals 'going dark', the Swedish presidency has started discussing the issue with all European Justice and Home Affairs ministers this Thursday in Stockholm. Yet, there is no dilemma between secure, private communications and the security interests of states - breaking encryption would simply mean destroying security security.
How to choose the best email service for your business?
Large companies like Cloudflare increasingly realize how important security has become for businesses, particularly when it comes to email due to threats like phishing, viruses, and more. Now Cloudflare is trying to meet this requirement with add-ons. But when choosing the best email for your business, security must be built it, not added on top. Here we explain what is important when it comes to business email solutions.
Fourteen Eyes Countries: How does this affect your privacy and security?
In the interconnected cyber world there are a growing number of platforms providing secure encrypted email, VPN, cloud storage, and other services. However, every time a new company appears eventually the following phrase will pop up: "Don't use this service! It is hosted in a Fourteen Eyes country, only worse would be the Five Eyes countries or Nine Eyes countries!" But who are the Fourteen Eyes countries? And most importantly, what kind of privacy risks are taken when using services hosted in the 5, 9 or 14 eyes?
App tracking: Why it's bad and how to stop it.
Most apps track you - not just when you use the app, but oftentimes also silently in the background. Whether you are using games, weather, fitness or social apps, it's likely that these apps send data to data brokers, or even to Google, Facebook and other tech giants. While this should be no news, the scale of this massive data accumulation is quite scary.

ThreeUK is blocking Tutanota. While ThreeUK says the applied adult filter was standard for any email provider, other services are not blocked.
In the United Kingdom, ThreeUK internet users are unable to access Tutanota mailboxes on mobile connections since the beginning of November. Even though we reached out to ThreeUK over one month ago, the issue is still not fixed. A possible reason could be a wrongly applied adult filter. Regardless of what is causing the issue, this shows why net neutrality is so important for internet users and online services alike.
Google introduces client-side encryption for Gmail - but not for you.
Gmail once promised that it will become end-to-end encrypted by default. Now Google has announced that it is following through on its promise - but only for Workspace key accounts. For private Gmail users end-to-end encryption is still out of reach. Will this new effort for true security be available to all users in the future, or just to a 'chosen few'?
We are kicking off the development of email import!
We are excited to let you know that we are working on an import feature for Tutanota. As an end-to-end encrypted email service, we do not want to import your emails directly to our servers. When importing any of your data to Tutanota, we always make sure that our server can never read any of it. This zero-knowledge approach is a challenge, particularly for emails, but we already have an idea how to tackle it!
U2F support is now also available on Android and iOS.
We've just brought great improvements to the Tutanota Android and iOS apps: You can now use USB or NFC hardware token to secure your login credentials on the Tutanota apps. This update shows once more that Tutanota excels in security and privacy!
